Nicolas Frois - Lumi Lens

Lumi Lens is a smartphone app that lets you use your camera in an innovative way, facilitating the addition of frames in real time to achieve different effects, such as a long exposure simulation, a real-time viewer of light paintings, and the full motion capture of birds, among other uses (examples included below).

The app allows you to capture images and video by adding frames over time using different blending options. It also offers different modes: manual mode, continuous mode, and automatic timer mode (frames are added every certain number of seconds).

An interesting design problem:

Lumi Lens was born from my desire to take long-exposure photography in a simple way, without needing a large camera, but simply with my smartphone. The backbone of this app is a shader that combines the frames obtained by the camera over time using different blending modes.

The available configuration options are quite technical, and in terms of usability, the app has not been optimized. This is because it was developed solely for the purpose of developing the background shader. The app is still under continuous development, and I hope to even include tutorials for the app's various uses.

Lumi Lens is a specialized app for people interested in experimental photography. Its target audience is a niche audience that enjoys sharing their creations, so the app makes sharing your images and videos quite easy.

Below, I'm sharing some results I've created using the app. It's especially good for photographing birds, cars at night, people, and moving lights.

A dream I haven't yet fulfilled is to photograph fireflies with this app.
